The new NYI Chicago data center, a former Navisite facility, is also perfectly poised to address Edge and IoT requirements. Strategically located in Oak Brook, the facility provides clients with access to a wide range of carriers as well as direct connectivity to 350 E. Cermak, one of the most well-connected data centers in the world. The data center already serves a number of key verticals including Finance and Telecommunications and NYI expects to attract new clients across all industries.

Digital Realty Launches Digital Docklands in London: Digital Realty has announced today the official opening of Cloud House, the latest facility in its Digital Docklands campus of highly-connected data centres in London’s Docklands area. The investment will support the growth of London’s technology ecosystem, with the city set to experience a multibillion-pound technology boom, according to a new study conducted by Development Economics. The Digital Realty-commissioned study, “Digital Capitals Index: London,” examines the value that innovative technologies will deliver to the city’s economy over the next decade through new jobs, businesses, industries and efficiencies in public services. The report focuses on four of the most widely discussed technology innovations: Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and Blockchain. These four innovative technologies combined will add £6.25 billion to London’s economy in 2019, with IoT contributing the most at £3.09 billion (49 percent of the total) primarily through improvements in operational efficiencies.
Simec Atlantis Energy to Build the World’s Largest Ocean Powered Data Centre in Caithness, Scotland: SIMEC Atlantis Energy Limited (“Atlantis”), the global developer, owner and operator of sustainable energy projects, has announced ambitions for a tidal-powered data centre in the Caithness region of Scotland. The power supply for such a data centre would include electricity supplied via a private wire network from tidal turbines at the existing MeyGen project site. This would be the first ocean powered data centre in the world, with the potential to attract a hyperscale data centre occupier to Scotland. It is expected that the data centre would be connected to multiple international subsea fibre optic cables, offering a fast and reliable connection to London, Europe and the USA. Further connectivity to the central belt using domestic terrestrial networks could significantly improve Scottish data and connectivity resilience. The MeyGen project has a seabed lease and consents secured for a further 80MW of tidal capacity, in addition to the 6MW operational array which has now generated more than 20,000MWh of electricity for export to the grid. The target operations date for the data centre is expected to be 2024, in line with the expansion plans for the tidal array, however a smaller initial data centre module could be deployed sooner to draw on the output from the existing tidal array.
eStruxture expands Cogent partnership: eStruxture Data Centers has expanded its partnership with Cogent Communications, a multinational Internet Service Provider. Already present in eStruxture’s MTL-1 data center, Cogent will now be offering Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) at the company’s MTL-2 facility. The move empowers eStruxture to provide even greater choice in high-performance connectivity options for customers with applications requiring dedicated bandwidth. Dedicated internet access solutions offer organizations secure, dedicated bandwidth with synchronous upload and download speeds. For those using cloud computing, remote desktop connections, VoIP functionality and a host of other data-intensive, data center applications, DIA is growing in popularity as a way to avoid the issues of shared internet connections. The new deal with Cogent improves eStruxture’s already-strong ability to meet the high-performance, ultra-low latency requirements of its customers.
Megaport Elastic Cloud Connectivity Now Available in EdgeConneX Munich Edge Data Center: EdgeConneX has announced that Megaport, a global leading Network as a Service (NaaS) provider servicing more than 1,500 customers worldwide, has completed the deployment of its elastic cloud connectivity fabric at the EdgeConneX Munich data center. Megaport’s cloud connectivity solution enables enterprises to reduce operational costs, increase control and scale by leveraging multiple on-demand cloud services. The Munich announcement follows as EdgeConneX and Megaport expand their relationship globally, having recently announced Megaport cloud service availability in EdgeConneX Denver data centers and Memphis data center, bringing the total number of markets that Megaport is deployed in at EdgeConneX to 8.
