ABB Enables Smarter Data Center Solutions for GIGA Data Center: GIGA Data Centers has chosen ABB for its complete power solutions. Following its acquisition of GE Industrial Solutions (GE) in July 2018, ABB’s range now includes ‘Best of Both’ solutions, combining elements from ABB and GE to provide a more comprehensive offer that meets increasing demand for fast, decisive data center deployment. GIGA Data Centers aims to make modular data center technology available to every company, not just hyper-scale data centers. They believe companies seeking data center colocation should have access to the same high levels of efficiency and flexibility at a competitive cost. For the company’s new data center in Mooresville, North Carolina, GIGA worked closely with ABB from the outset to develop the critical power distribution design. The objectives of the project were to maximize scalability while achieving an ultra-low PUE, which is the ratio of total power consumed by the data center versus the power delivered to its servers. The average PUE in 2019 is 1.67, with GIGA achieving a much lower PUE of 1.15 for up to 50kW per rack cabinet. Compared to the industry average, this means that customers can reduce their operating costs by 31 percent just by being in GIGA’s facility.

The Aruba CX Switching Portfolio now includes the Aruba CX 6300 Series fixed configuration and CX 6400 Series modular access, aggregation and core switches, while delivering the latest advancements in the AOS-CX operating system. This gives network operators one simple, end-to-end switching platform to dramatically improve business outcomes today and into the future. Aruba is the first company to offer a single switching platform that runs on a modern network operating system – AOS-CX – from the enterprise edge to the core to the data center. This unique, cloud-native platform is further optimized by Aruba’s powerful Network Analytics Engine (NAE), which utilizes embedded analytics and automation to simplify management, accelerate troubleshooting of application performance issues and remediate common network problems.
- Flexential Becomes First Data Center to Host ONTAP AI Test Drive Platform: Flexential has become the first data center globally to host ONTAP AI Test Drive, a fully optimized and tested infrastructure solution for AI workloads. The platform, available today in one of Flexential’s Portland, OR data centers, will be offered in more of the 21 markets served by Flexential in the future. For a limited time, providers are offering a test drive to allow select customers to try ONTAP AI before making an investment. In January, Flexential first announced its collaboration with NVIDIA to bring DGX-Ready data center colocation services to customers. This capability ensures Flexential data centers can support the high-density power and cooling necessary for advanced AI workloads. ONTAP AI, available in the Flexential Portland data center, allows select customers to pilot their AI workloads starting today.
- German and Swiss Companies Seek Cloud and Data Center Services to Grow their Businesses: Enterprise customers in Germany and Switzerland are looking for cloud and data center providers that can help them become more agile and create new business opportunities, according to two reports published recently by Information Services Group, a leading global technology research and advisory firm. The 2019 ISG Provider Lens Private/Hybrid Cloud — Data Center Services & Solutions Reports — one focused on Germany, the other on Switzerland — see the cloud and data center markets in each country growing quickly, as the number of managed service providers that build or maintain public cloud partnerships expands.
- Expedient Secures New Investment Sponsor, AMP Capital, to Fund Continued Growth and Expansion of its Data Center and Enterprise Cloud Platforms: Expedient, a leading cloud computing and data center infrastructure as a service (IaaS) provider, today announced that global investment management firm AMP Capital, has agreed to acquire the company from its current parent, Landmark Media Enterprises, LLC. This announcement comes just days after Expedient released news of its Western Expansion, with the deployment of a new, already in production Enterprise Cloud point of delivery platform in Phoenix, AZ. Expedient had previously been focused primarily in the Northeast and Central U.S., with its 11 fully managed data center locations, complemented by several other strategically located partner facilities. There are no operational changes planned as part of this transaction. The senior management team of Expedient, most of whom have been part of the venture for more than 20 years, will continue in their current capacities.
