• Chicago Suburb Considering Allowing Data Center Development: The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the village of Sugar Grove, a suburb of the Windy City, is considering a zoning amendment that would allow the construction of a data center in the municipality. “At a meeting of the Village Board this week, staff was instructed to begin looking into possible locations and drafting an ordinance that would allow for a data center, something Sugar Grove Village President Sean Michels calls a highly specialized use,” writes

  the Tribune. “This would involve adding a data center as a permitted use in our industrial and business park zoning districts,” he said. “We were contacted by a firm but we have not disclosed things until now as there was competition for other sites.”
• Cyxtera Technologies Elevates Manuel D. Medina to Executive Chairman, Promotes Nelson Fonseca to CEO: Cyxtera Technologies today announced that Cyxtera founder and CEO Manuel D. Medina has been elevated to the position of Executive Chairman for both Cyxtera and its recently announced AppGate spin-out, where he will provide strategic guidance and counsel for the two companies. Current Cyxtera President and Chief Operating Officer Nelson Fonseca has been promoted to the role of CEO for Cyxtera. Fonseca has more than 20 years of experience as an executive in the I.T. infrastructure sector. He served in several leadership positions alongside Medina at Terremark, ultimately as President of the Verizon Terremark unit after Verizon’s acquisition of the company for an enterprise value of $2 Billion USD.
• ABB Powers the Electrification of Dutch Colocation Data Center: Dutch Colocation data center and infrastructure provider Serverius has chosen ABB as a strategic partner for the renovation and expansion of its electrical infrastructure across two of its leading sites. With its own IP network and a growing global customer base, Serverius currently operates two data centers located on the data highway between Amsterdam and Frankfurt. Following rapid growth in recent years, Serverius (serverius.net) selected a range of solutions and services from ABB to modernize its data center in Meppel and Dronten. These solutions will deliver fast and safe connectivity with greater efficiency, reliability and uptime for its colocation customers.  Based on the current demands of the business it was critical that the two facilities could be upgraded and renovated within a short timescale and protect the future vision of the colocation data center with the capacity to flex and scale according to Serverius’ customer demands.
• Report | IT Professionals Want to Embrace Cloud Services, Update IT Infrastructure and Expand Job Roles: Internap Corporation has announced the results of its annual State of IT Infrastructure Management report, which surveyed more than 500 IT professionals about their organization’s current and future plans for IT infrastructure.
  While the majority of IT professionals would give their current IT infrastructure an above average grade, only one in four would say it’s worthy of an “A.” When asked why their infrastructure didn’t receive top marks, the top two reasons were that the infrastructure is not fully optimized for the organization’s applications and the fact that IT professionals are spending too much time managing and maintaining the infrastructure (both at 42 percent). Additionally, nearly 9 in 10 organizations (88 percent) with on-premise data centers will be moving at least some of their workloads to the cloud, managed hosting or colocation in the next three years. Overall, IT professionals expect a 38 percent reduction in their on-premise workloads by 2022. Where infrastructure is located does have an impact on how IT feels about their systems, as a majority (70 percent) feel that hybrid and multicloud strategies have made management easier to some extent.
