New tier will include domain investor tools that other users don’t need.
GoDaddy is introducing a new tier to its Domain Discount Club (DDC), a program that offers discounts and additional features.
DDC currently has over 100,000 members. Many of these are domain investors, but others are bulk customers and agencies.
These other groups probably aren’t interested in features like Afternic self-brokering and Domain Academy. So, GoDaddy is moving these features into a new domain investor tier.
The registrar says it’s developing new features, perks, and events for this tier beyond what is currently offered.
GoDaddy will automatically move DDC accounts operated by investors into this new tier.
A question that’s likely on top of everyone’s mind: Will it cost more?
It won’t cost more at first, anyway. The company confirmed to Domain Name Wire that investor customers will get a complimentary upgrade to the new tier. It also said that upgraded members will not see a price change anytime soon.
This suggests to me that perhaps new DDC members who choose the investor tier will pay more. So it might be worth signing up before the change if you’re contemplating joining.
