JetCool and Start Campus have announced a strategic partnership aimed at expanding high-efficiency cooling options for large scale data centers. This collaboration, announced on October 15, 2024, intends to complement Start Campus’ wide portfolio of cooling solutions and aligns the strengths of both companies to redefine the future of sustainable data center infrastructure.

Innovative Cooling Solutions for Next-Gen Data Centers

At the heart of this partnership is JetCool’s advanced patented microconvective cooling technology. This cutting-edge solution will be made available to customers at Start Campus’ impressive 1.2 GW SINES DC in Portugal, complementing the facility’s existing AI-ready power and cooling infrastructure.

Key features of JetCool’s technology include:

  • Microjet impingement approach targeting hotspots directly on chips
  • Ability to use coolant temperatures over 60°C
  • Reduced need for mechanical chillers
  • Enablement of free cooling even in warmer climates
  • Significant reduction in power consumption

Pushing the Boundaries of Sustainability

The partnership between JetCool and Start Campus represents a significant step forward in data center sustainability. By leveraging JetCool’s liquid cooling options alongside Start Campus’ sea water cooling technology, the collaboration aims to maximize efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.

Denis Browne, Head of R&D for Start Campus, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “We’re expanding our suite of cooling options for customers, while maximizing the benefits of SINES DC’s existing sea water cooling infrastructure and AI-readiness.”

Empowering High-Density Computing

This collaboration is particularly significant for customers requiring efficient cooling solutions for AI GPUs and other high-density computing systems. JetCool’s newly launched 300kW in-rack liquid-to-liquid coolant distribution unit (CDU) offers a highly flexible solution that can adapt to a variety of high-density workloads

Dr. Bernie Malouin, CEO of JetCool, highlighted the synergy between the two companies: “By combining our liquid cooling solutions—from cold plates to high-capacity CDUs—with their AI-ready power and cooling infrastructure, we’re enabling a new standard for high-density compute environments that pushes the boundaries of efficiency and scalability.”

The Future of Data Center Cooling

To demonstrate the potential of this partnership, Start Campus will be presenting at the Open Compute Project (OCP) Global Summit on October 16 in the JetCool Pavilion. The session, titled “Advancing Sustainability in Data Centers: Evaluation of Hybrid Air/Liquid Cooling Schemes for IT Payload Using Sea Water,” will explore how hybrid cooling approaches can support the growing demand for more powerful and efficient data centers.

As the data center industry continues to evolve, partnerships like this are paving the way for a more sustainable and efficient future. By combining innovative cooling technologies with AI-ready infrastructure, the companies are setting new standards for performance and environmental responsibility in the hyperscale data center space.
