What’s hot in non-.com

Here’s what’s selling in non-.com domains.

Donuts has published its Donuts Domain Trend Report for February. Donuts manages more top level domains than any other company, so it gives a good window into what’s trending in the non-come space.

The company is now including some data from TLDs it acquired from Afilias last year. Last month, its five top premium domain sales were in .global, which came from Afilias. They were foundation.global, epic.global, kcg.global, track.global and world.global.

.Global has a high/low model where the initial year of premium registration is higher, so it makes sense that these domains would be at the top of the list. The highest sale using Donuts high/high model was x.rip, which appears to have an annual wholesale cost of around $3,000.

Not surprisingly, Afilias’ stalwart .info was the top seller in terms of new registrations last month. It was followed by .live, .life, .world and .digital. These are fairly generic extensions, which tend to be registered more often than niche extensions like .plumbing.

The most registered term in a second level domain was today. .Today is also one of Donuts’ extensions, and that’s not by accident. Many new top level domains companies went after domains as TLDs because of the popularity of the word in second level registrations.

And while meta isn’t as hot on the aftermarket as it was previously, it was still popular for new registrations in Donuts’ domains last month, coming in at #2 on its list of most-registered words.
