Twitter Fleets no more
Twitter has pulled the plug on Fleets—ephemeral tweets designed to compete with Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, and Snapchat.
The feature didn’t catch on, and Twitter is now sinking Fleets, effective tomorrow.
Although fleets is the plural of fleet, Twitter Fleets is a portmanteau of “fleeting tweets.”
When Twitter announced the launch of Fleets last November, many clueless domainers jumped on the opportunity to register domains containing the “fleets” keyword.
These domains are now useless, including TwitterFleets.com that got deleted a few months ago.
Moral of the story: don’t go riding on the coattails of a new brand or service, infringing on the brand or mark.
