Say hello to the latest domain/trademark pair, APPROVE.COM.
A full year after its application was filed at the USPTO, the operators of Approve.com received the approval of the matching mark, APPROVE.COM.
The domain and the mark are now in the possession of Approve.com Ltd, an Israeli corporation. It’s the Research and Development arm of Tipalti, an accounting software financial technology business.
The mark’s registration is for the following services:
Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) services featuring software for use by organizations to manage procurement operations and workflows by automating the procurement processes including the invoice processing, contract renewals, procurement request workflows, payments, and vendor relations
Despite its seemingly generic nature, the mark now joins Booking.com that set a precedent in June of 2020 with its registration as a trademark. Others, such as Cams.com, might not be so lucky.

It’s an ongoing trend among owners of generic domain names, following the decision by SCOTUS on the Booking.com trademark application.
Since then, dozens of generic domain names have been applied to be registered as trademarks, inclusive of the TLD. We keep track of these applications, and so far none has been decided upon.
As of January 5th, 2021, BOOKING.COM is a registered trademark with the USPTO.
Will these applications become the new norm? Watch this video from NamesCon Online 2020.
