The end of the year can be a pretty good time to sell and buy a domain name. Companies may have extra money to spend, particularly related to marketing budgets. Individuals may be in a more jolly mood and may be more willing to fork out cash on a domain name acquisition. On the flip side, some companies are probably struggling and want to hit revenue numbers. Some people have probably spent more than they wish on holiday gifts and expenses.
Right now is probably a very good time to reach back out to rekindle a deal that didn’t make it over the finish line.
The last week in the year can be frantic for many people. Between the Christmas and New Years holidays, travel, family plans, and other obligations, the last week of the year is not a great time to try and sell or buy a domain name. Higher value domain name deals that need multiple approvals have little chance of getting done. Even a great deal for both parties can stall if it needs multiple approvals before the end of the year.
This week and early next week are probably the best times to get a deal done if it is going to happen before the end of the year. In fact, I am going to spend a bit of time today and tomorrow looking through some of my inbound leads and outbound acquisition efforts.
In my reconnection emails, I will try to emphasize that I am reaching out to many prospects to see if anything has changed that would get them closer to the necessary sale price. I will look back through our prior exchanges to see if I can glean any new details that might be helpful. I may also reference some public comparable sales if I think they might be helpful. I want to make sure my outreach doesn’t look like a sign of weakness, although I don’t need to agree to any deals that don’t make sense.
With the year coming to an end, the next several days are probably ideal for dealmaking. I am going to try to get deals done on both sides of the ledger.
