Dutch auctions will follow regular auctions.
Domain name registrar Dynadot is making two changes to its expired domain auctions.
First, the company is introducing closeout auctions similar to GoDaddy. These Dutch auctions will occur when a domain doesn’t get bids during regular bidding. They will last for three days with a $30 buy now price on Day 1, $15 on Day 2, and $5 on Day 3.
Second, the company will no longer include the renewal fee in bid prices. Previously, bid prices included a one year renewal. So a .com domain might have shown a bid of $20.99, which was really $10 plus $10.99 for the renewal fee. Starting January 3, the bid would be displayed at $10, and the buyer would pay the renewal fee on top of that.
I imagine this makes it easier to offer differentiated pricing to customers. GoDaddy keeps renewal prices separate, and Domain Discount Club customers pay a lower price than other customers.
