Sabey Data Centers’ Explores Disaster Recovery as ‘Lifeboat’ for Business Continuity

Climate change. Pandemic. Natural disasters. Disaster recovery is top of mind for many industries today, as these terms — and more — become a larger part of daily vocabulary and conversation.

And disasters, and related recoveries, can be potentially even more crucial to companies in which down time can be devastating. This includes any business in which data holds a key role.

According to a new report from Sabey Data Centers, a strong disaster recovery (DR) plan is like a “lifeboat that preserves a business’s key resources to ensure business continuity.”

So, maintaining a disaster recovery strategy may be an essential consideration that can help keep a company in business. But as a the report points out, according to a recent Nationwide survey,  68% of small businesses don’t have a written disaster recovery plan.

With this in mind, Sabey Data Centers points out partnering with a colocation data center can help businesses cut down on the potential rick of data loss while also “allowing businesses to retain control of their DR policy, IT deployment and software.”

The report shares that maintaining disaster recovery infrastructure, like high-quality water and fiber connections, as well as backup systems, that help ensure consistent service and uninterrupted operations — can be expensive and cost inhibitive for businesses.

But by utilizing a colo center, the report contends, businesses can keep costs down, and still take advantage of innovative technology to keep downtime and outages at a low.

“Companies of all sizes need a strong DR plan to protect their business continuity under any circumstances, and colocation centers are uniquely positioned to offer the expertise necessary to uphold written DR policies,” Sabey said in the report.

They can also more easily test these plans. According to a 2018 Spiceworks survey, 29% of organizations test their DR plans once per year, 14% only test every few years and 23% have never tested their plan.

Many colocation providers have remote hands services, which can perform hardware audits and inspections to help ensure disaster discovery deployments are operating effectively.

“The world we live in is unpredictable, but with the right partner, businesses can weather any storm,” the report concludes.
