Stolen domain lawsuit dismissed

Lawsuit involved Chinese domain name investor and an investor who bought the domain on Sedo earlier this year.

A Chinese domain name investor who says a valuable three-number domain was stolen from him has voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit.

In July, Yin Sheng filed an in rem lawsuit against 509.com in U.S. court, saying the domain name was stolen from him.

Dashiell Shapiro, who acquired the domain name in a Sedo auction this year, showed up to defend the suit. He explained that he acquired the domain for $109,000 in the auction.

NameBio shows that the domain sold for $295,000 in 2018, so the circumstances of the auction sale are interesting.

Both parties filed for an order of dismissal with prejudice late last week. Whois records show that Shapiro still owns the domain name.
