Domains continue to benefit from the move online during the pandemic.
Both Canada’s and Australia’s domain registries reported strong metrics in Q3 in their respective quarterly reports.
Canada’s .ca domain name ended September with just under 3.2 million domains under management, representing year-over-year growth of 7.7%. Growth has slowed since June, although it’s still well above pre-pandemic levels. Domain name and website registrations have soared as businesses go online. This graphic from CIRA shows how growth rates rebounded as the pandemic hit.
Australia reported (pdf) 3.4 million domains under management at the end of Q3, up 5% year over year. auDA said new creates were a bit below the same quarter of last year but up from the second quarter of 2021. It said the sequential increase coincided with increased Covid-19 restrictions in part of Australia.
