$300,000 in 2008, DVDS.com fetches just $10,000 on Sedo 13 years later

Before streaming services there were dvds. They were the technology advancement that kicked VHS tapes to the curb. Back in 2008 DVDS.com sold for $300,000 at T.R.A.F.F.I.C. On Friday it sold for $10,000 at Sedo. That’s is quite the haircut. But you have to take what the market gives you when the format fades.

It’s what makes timing all the more important when it comes to tech trends. Something can change in a year or a decade. Of course DVD’s will be around for awhile, many have more than one player in their household. As a domain investment DVDS.com looks dated in a world of metaverse and NFT.

Recordhead.biz gave some food for thought when it comes to DVD’s.

DVDs and Blu-rays remain superior to streaming technologies when it comes to how you view a film. Physical releases don’t require the compressing of picture and audio that occurs with streaming. Home Wi-Fi and file sizes largely dictate what you get from a streaming server.

DVDs and Blu-rays offer 4K resolution, which outperforms the industry standard of 1080p. Blu-ray discs and DVDs offer more picture information than HD streaming, which will give you more control over factors such as contrast and color.

Whether you should continue to buy DVDs is dependent on what you want to get from your media. Streaming services can’t provide you with special features, deleted scenes, outtakes, interviews and commentaries like DVDs and Blu-rays can.

This is a look at Google trends for the term, 5 years and Worldwide.
