Within the data centers themselves, Uptime Institute, the source for industry tier certification in data center design, build and operations, which surveyed data center industry professionals, reported in December 2023 that that data center operators are presently engaged in a “struggle to overcome [an] ongoing staff and skills shortage,” as reported by Data Center Frontier in this article.

As a result, data center operators are spending more to attract and keep staff — but the aforementioned funds are often not focused on areas where new skills and staff are most needed.  And, despite the urgency, many companies forgo the proper investment in training and resources needed to increase the retention of staff and to develop new staff coming into their organizations. This leaves open vast amounts of opportunities for operators to differentiate themselves and get ahead, by developing robust and ongoing training and professional development programs.
